Dr Thng Yongxian is a dual fellowship-trained Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) & General Surgeon in Singapore who has performed over 6000 surgical procedures.
Dr Thng received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery form The National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his basic and advanced surgical training at the National University hospital and was admitted to the Specialist Accreditation Board Singapore and ACGME-I (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International) a residency program administered by the American Board of Surgeons. Concomitantly he also obtained the qualifications of M.Med (Surgery), and MRCS (Ire). He was later honoured as a Fellow to both the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).
Dr Thng Yongxian is a specialist with extensive experience in pancreatic surgery. He first pursued his subspecialty training in Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery at:
- Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary & Liver Transplant Surgery, Singapore General Hospital
- Minimally Invasive Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang, South Korea
Dr Thng Yongxian also pursued further surgical training at Far Eastern hospital Taiwan, Prince of Wales Hepatopancreatobiliary division Hong Kong and Heidelberg University hospital Hepatobiliary and visceral transplant department Germany, solidifying his expertise in advanced surgical techniques for digestive tract surgery, cancer surgery, laparoscopic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

Prior to joining Nexus Surgical associates, Dr Thng Yongxian was a consultant at the National University Health System, Singapore. As an advocate for value-driven care for patients, Dr Thng Yongxian was a member of the Ministry of Health (MOH) Laparoscopic cholecystectomy Clinician workgroup for value-driven care (VDC).
On the research front, Dr Thng Yongxian is a leading figure in laparoscopic surgery of the liver and pancreas recognised for his surgical technique and was invited to present his surgical videos at Best Video sessions during international surgical conferences. He also received the A-STAR-Medtech innovation grant ($500k) in 2017 to develop a novel wearable in-sole to monitor foot pressures.
He has also published in international peer-reviewed journals on resection of complex liver malignancies. As a Senior Clinical lecturer of NUS School of Medicine, he has been an examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and has helped develop and train the next generation of surgeons.
